I admit I am not really into horse racing all that much. All the stats and numbers just turn me off. I typically just pick my favorite based on how they look. :) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's all who decides to play the game and run that day anyway. No matter the numbers that back them.
This year my pick is
Revolutionary.
I like his bright expression, suggesting that maybe he gets a bit distracted sometimes.
But he also has a very Seattle-Slew-like look to him. I'd put money on him. If I had any.
My second pick is probably Verrazano.
In contrast, he appears very workmanlike - almost worried - in the photos I have seen of him. He strikes me as a real people pleaser. One who will keep trying and trying.

Mostly, I just hope they all make it around safe.

ReplyDeleteRevolutionary - he is 10 - 1 but is ridden by Calvin Borel, who may be an ass in his interviews, but can ride. Especially at Church Downs. Starting in the 3 spot.
My second pick is Orb. He is out of Unbridled and has a lot of stamina. I would put him in first, but he's starting in the 16th spot and that's a tough place to run from. And he doesn't have Borel aboard.
Number three for me is Goldencents. He might be a stretch, since he's never raced this far. He's a nice, big red horse (I've been partial to big red horses since watching Secretariat win the Belmont by 30). He is starting in the 8th spot and should have enough early speed to put himself in good position.
I'm not too big into racing myself, but I like Revolutionary's name and his look!
