As someone who has started plenty of babies/greenies in the past, I can tell you that a good ground person is invaluable. I always pick someone I trust, with good horse sense and who can react quickly, in a calm manner if needed.
This girl's ground person did just about everything wrong ... I guess besides just letting go of the horse.
aye!! the person on the ground actually looks scared of the horse lol! NOT someone I would want help from!
ReplyDeleteI haven't started the young ones for a couple of years, but that is not how I'd do it at all... I also only came off once when I was doing it, lol.
ReplyDeleteWow. You can't even list the ways that is wrong. I am so lucky to have An amazing ground person. I sat on my boy bareback and it felt good to trust my BFF completely. All I had to worry about was being balanced and careful will my legs. It was enirely uneventfull because of his expert hands.
ReplyDeleteWow. I agree with all the above comments. I would be pissed at that person!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I would be super not okay with that situation. Glad no one was seriously hurt at least!
ReplyDeleteI too am very thankful for all the super help I received when breaking out Riva - knock wood, did not come off on our first ride and still haven't!
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why I don't bother with a ground person. Jesus...
ReplyDeleteAgreed...a good ground person is invaluable!
